How we are helping conserve the environment
at the self catering holiday cottages
Green Dragon Environmental Standard
Green Cottages have been awarded the Green Dragon Environmental Standard Level 2.
We are committed to providing comfortable eco friendly self catering accommodation that promotes the environmental benefits of the West Wales area and ensuring our activities have the minimum adverse impact on the environment.
Organic Conversion
We are currently converting our 26 acres of pastureland, meadows, Organic Vegetable Gardens and newly planted Orchards to full organic status.
Organic systems recognise that our health is directly connected to the food we eat and, ultimately, the health of the soil. As part of this process we are committed to producing good food from a balanced living soil, without the use of artificial chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
Re-cycle
Our aim, is to recycle and re-use as much as possible to save natural resources, save energy, reduce the need for landfill and reduce the cost of disposal. We aim to use recycled products wherever possible, both in the self catering cottages and in our gardens.
Energy and Water conservation
In our eco-friendly self catering accommodation, our aim is to reduce energy consumption by using low energy light bulbs wherever possible and using energy efficient appliances.
The cottages have low energy underfloor heating with thermostats in each room, and are well insulated. We harvest rainwater for use in the gardens and natural wildlife pond.
Shopping Locally
We encourage our guests to shop and dine locally whilst staying at Green Cottages.
In the eco friendly self catering cottage is a resource pack containing the "Ceredigion and West Wales Food Trail" with local shops, farms and places to visit where you can buy local produce. Some of the places and tastes not to be missed.
